Grievance & Representation
If something at work doesn't seem right, the union is here to help — often before it becomes a formal grievance.
Deadlines are short — contact the union promptly
A written Step 2 grievance generally must be submitted within 20 daysof the event or of reasonable awareness of it; later steps have shorter deadlines. Don't wait — reach out as soon as you can. See the grievance procedure (Article 3 / Appendix C).
When to contact the union
- You're called to a meeting that could lead to discipline.
- You're disciplined, reassigned, or your hours change unexpectedly.

- You're unsure of your rights in a workplace situation.
Your representation rights
You have the right to request union representation in an investigatory meeting that could lead to discipline (Weingarten rights). Ask for a representative before answering questions. See Rights → Weingarten.
